A Brief Frame Of The German Education System
Ayban -Dilsaz Ulusan – Cologne
As well known Germany is a federal state with 16 states, they are called “Bundesländer”. Each of them are respomsobel for their own education system. Cologne belongs to the Federal State of Nordrhein-Wastfahlen, it is abbrivated NRW.
In NRW education system is devided in primary Education: these are Kindergartens, primary schools and secondary education schools. The secondary education is divided in 4 different School-levels, plus seperate schoolinstiution for disabeld people. So far after 4 years of primary school education, if you are a very good pupil , you can go to a high level school called gymnasium, that aimed to prepare you mainly for university education.
There are also Gesamtschule-schools. They have all kinds of pupils and if you good enough, after secondary scholl you can also go to the highschool level in this schools and get the graduate for studying on an University. Third obtion is Realschule and Hauptschule-shools. These are for children that mainly aimed to get non-university education. They are for 5 years. After, you can make a pre-education for example for a craft- profession and so on.
Beside there also schools with special pedagogical program like Montossori or Steiner-schools. These schools are like some kind of private schools. I am going to the high school that focused mainly art subjects like music, theater, painting an other else.
However, I will start at first to call you pros of the German education system:
It is nearly without payment, only in private school you have to pay fees.
Usually you have well educated teachers with two subjects like PE and History for example.
You get a very large and diversity education
All schools are must completed with a same central exam. So you have equal conditions for all
Yo can learn more than two languages
You can choose a diversity of schools
Usually you make more than one internships to getting better prepared for a job. You have the choice to get a number of non-govermental education. You have also a number of sports and other clubs to educate for low budget.
However in my view the cons are:
You have a lot of subjects, curriculum to learn, you get many home-works, and you have to manage all with your parents. So if you are a child of non-educated people you have a low chance to make a good exam: that means no equal chances.
Also the early dividing in schools with different levels for succsessful pupils and so on underscore non-equality. Also an impoteant issue is; you have very low lesuretime. It’s is really hard, you have 32-35 hours school a week an more between 2-4 hours you have to spend time for preparing homeworks. An other point to mention isi you haven’t a good support by teachers. They are overloaded with their own works.
In most schools you haven’t a good new media knowlege by teachers and also equipment.
So you have to go 13 years to school for finishing plus university education.
An other special subjekt is, in Germany you don’t have school-uniforms, therefore many cases of mobbing are happening.
The curriculum is focused in europeanean themes an thinking, culture and history. Other parts of the world are only rudimental.
And therefor also languages like polish, russian, turkish, arabic or chinese aren’t in common in Germany even though living for example close to 5 million turks, 2 million Russian revernants an one million polishs.
So these are the mainly cons ond pros of the german education system.
