Your Excellency
António Manuel de Oliveira Guterres
United Nations General Secretary
Your Excellency,
Due to Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ 70th Anniversary, we that make part of a global collective formed by academics, social workers, teacher’s unions, students’ associations and civil society organizations, coordinated by PoliTeknik Journal, by University of Jena’s Education and Culture Institute and the University of Wuppertal’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Childhood, have initiated a reflection process that led us to present a proposition of extension of UDHR’s article 26, in what concerns the Right to Education.
The project that we include with this letter has, as reference, the substantial change that world experienced since UDHR’s adoption and, specifically, the new challenges faced by States, communities and civil society organizations, in contexts that threaten the offering of public, free and qualified educational opportunities, adapted to cultural diversity.
We have been doing various activities of analysis and propagation, including symposia, seminars, publications and technical discussions between people and participant organizations and institutions, in which we would like to base, soon, for UN’s General Assembly apreaciation, a project to extend referred UDHR’s article 26.
This project aims to update the set of duties and rights evolved on the functional architecture of Human Right to Education and, therefore, to strengthen the implementation of political and institutional actions to it’s full accomplishment.
If It is possible, we ask Your Excellency, Mr. General Secretary, that grant us an audience to verbally present the project. Besides that, we ask that Your Excellency designate a representative of your office to facilitate the dialogue and the presentation of this initiative.
With respect and high consideration, we mindfully salute Your Excellency.
